occupations. There are as many design specialties, as there
are creative people. The most common area of design is interior
design. It is a field of great creativity whereby all types
of interior spaces can be manipulated or altered to form stimulating
and functional areas in which to live, work or play
Program Overview
The Associate of Applied Business Degree
in Interior Design prepares students for jobs in this challenging
and exciting profession. It is a field of great creativity
whereby all types of interior spaces can be manipulated or
altered to form stimulating and functional areas in which
to live, work and play. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level
employment as freelance designers, design studio or design
service consultants and design sales representatives. Job
projects can be residential, commercial or institutional.
Working environments range from department and furniture stores,
design centers, art and accessory dealerships, architectural
firms, construction firms, showrooms and large corporations,
and film industry set design. An extensive course of instruction
is necessary for entering this expanding profession. Educational
emphasis is placed on the ability to express clients’
wishes through space usage and color, shape, texture and fit
of furnishings.

Faster than average employment growth
is expected.
Although a good portfolio is often the deciding factor in
getting a job, formal preparation in design is important in
all fields. Additionally, interior design is subject to government
regulation and 22 states require Interior Designers to be
licensed. It is not required in the state of Ohio or Indiana
for Interior Designers to be licensed.
