Get to Know Your Favorite Office Manager, Debbie Byrd.

May 21st was my 10th anniversary as an employee of Antonelli College. I have had numerous jobs in my life. I’ve worked in banks, doctor offices, a health club, and even managed a Goodwill store. I have volunteered in a self-help group for people with MS, and worked on an ambulance as an EMT for a rescue squad. All were learning experiences, and all helped make me what I am today.

As exciting as these were, I always wanted to work in an office. In high school, I took every type of office class I could, and learned things we don’t even use today. Antonelli gave me a home, giving me a place to use all that information. It has also given me the satisfaction of knowing that in my own little way I am doing my part to send our students out into the work force, ready to tackle anything that life throws at them.

When I am not at work, I am at home taking care of my husband, and my home. I enjoy gardening, painting, and making jewelry.

Flue Season is Coming! Here are some tips to keep you and your loved ones healthy.

Posted on

Fever, aches, runny nose and much worse can befall you if you’re not careful in protecting yourself from the flu. Between school, work, and taking care of your family, you’re probably far too busy to fall ill.  Taking a few simple steps can help prevent the flu (and even colds) from disrupting your life, so you can stay on task.

One way to prevent seasonal flu is to wash your hands frequently. Wash after you shake hands with anyone, after you use the restroom, and before you eat. A thorough washing is best, which means at least 20 seconds with soapy water. When you get home from school or work or anywhere else with high risk, it’s also a good idea to change your clothes as well as wash your hands.

Also, remember to keep your hands away from your face. If you do have any germs on your hands, you can at least prevent them from getting in your body by making sure not to touch your nose, mouth or eyes: all common places for germs to get in.

Another to consider: take care of yourself. A healthy immune system can fight off the germs that sneak in. Get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced diet with lots of vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables, stay active, and drink plenty of water.

Finally, the best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year.

Everyone six months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season. There are plenty of great reasons to get your flu vaccine:

  • Flu vaccination can keep you from getting sick with flu.
  • Flu vaccination is incredibly safe; it will not give you the flu.
  • Flu vaccination is an important preventive tool for people with chronic health conditions.
  • Vaccination helps protect women during and after pregnancy. Getting vaccinated can also protect a baby after birth from flu. (Mom passes antibodies onto the developing baby during her pregnancy.)
  • Getting vaccinated yourself also protects people around you, including those who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like babies and young children, older people, and people with certain chronic health conditions.
  • In the event that you do fall ill, flu vaccination also can make your illness milder.

For more information about the flu and flu vaccinations go to The Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm, and talk to your doctor.

Faculty Merry

It is an honor to be asked to give you a little insight into my past and current experience(s). On January 1, 2017, I was promoted to Department Chair for Medical Billing and Coding and also to work with Medical Assistant students finishing up their studies. My work experience includes 30+ years within the field of Medical Billing and Coding/Healthcare Administration. I have worked for physician offices, hospital and nursing facilities, and even worked on the side of insurance carriers.

Like many of you, I waited to complete my education until I was older, in December of 2004, and completed a Master Degree in Healthcare Administration in 2011. I understand the struggles our students have with working full-time, taking care of a household, and even taking care of children, while trying to obtain your education.

On a personal note, I am the mother of two sons. One is married with 4 awesome children, all of whom I totally adore. My oldest grandson graduates this year and will attend Florida State University. My youngest son lives with me, due to a permanent disability.

I have loved working with each and every student here at Antonelli. Taking my experience and education and passing it forward to those who want a successful future, gives me inspiration and motivation each day. Thank you, Antonelli College and students, for giving me the opportunity to share with each of you, the experience and knowledge that I have gained over the years. I cannot think of a better place to be.

Staff Dean

Growing up, I imagined myself playing in the NFL. I attended Roger Bacon High school where I received a football scholarship to Bowling Green University. After leaving Bowling Green, I found myself going from job to job trying to find my place in life. In 2005, I started at Antonelli College as a receptionist through a temporary agency. After only six short months in that position, the director of the school, Traci Fletcher, decided to bring me on fulltime. I spent the next two years working at the front desk before I decided, for personal reasons, to move to Las Vegas, Nevada. I quickly realized life in the “Sin City” wasn’t for me. I found myself at a crossroads and decided to return home to Cincinnati. I was unaware at the time that this move would change my professional life forever.

When I returned, I found that Antonelli had an opening in the financial aid department. Excited to rejoin the team, I applied. Upon hire, I found my true passion. Being able to help students through the process of obtaining financial aid and making their dreams a reality, gave me more satisfaction than I ever imagined. Working at Antonelli has changed my life. It not only provided me with a career but it also helped inspire me to become an entrepreneur.  Though football will always be a passion, I now have a purpose.

The ABCs of Interior Design as a Career

Posted on

You've certainly come across awe-inspiring, intrinsic and extrinsic parts of buildings that transcend the borders of your imaginations. You've got enchanted and enthralled by grids of colorful arrangements, appealing furniture, blend of lights with particles of life, and alluring designs that drown you in streams of amazement. Those wonders are products of the craftsmanship of an interior designer.

Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interiors and exteriors of a space or building through the engagement of professional skills with the sole aim of creating a healthier and more aesthetically refined space for the pleasure of the end user.

Interior designers are primarily responsible for the functionality of space, its safety and beautification. They achieve this through deft estimation of space and what can fit in, and how best what can fit in can fit in.

The duties of an interior designer are in a typical class. They hunt and bid for new products, determine the client goal and specific needs, which of course vary from client to client. They consider the use of space and how it can be adapted to enhance mobility, sketch background designs like partition schemes and electrical layout of a building. Interior designers also help specify materials for furniture, lighting, wall decoration, flooring and plumbing features, creating a timeline for and estimating gross cost of project. Interior designers work closely with mechanical, structural, civil and architectural engineers.

Aspirers of interior design as a study course are opened to a trade that guarantees financial independence and reputable wealth of knowledge that grows in relevance with time. Interior designers are often required to create sketches and design blueprints for homes, hospitals, schools, or hotels through the help of Computer Aided Software (CAD). Objects with volume i:e (3 dimensional objects) are also built through the help of a Building Information Modeling Software (BIM).

As you would expect from similar ubiquitous fields of study, Interior designing is only a generic umbrella for other subordinate areas of specialization. Here are some classes of interior designers and their niche of operation:

Healthcare Designers

Healthcare Designers engage the evidence-design process in creating and renovating healthcare centers such as clinics, hospitals and residential care facilities. Their operations are often based on the outcomes of research majorly directed towards the enhancement of health facilities.

Sustainable Designers

As the name implies, designers in this class foster strategies that fuel sustainability of energy, indoor air quality, water efficiency, as well as specifying feasible and sustainable environmental products.

Universal Designers

These designers dominate renovation of spaces to create better accessibility. They enhance mobility and fluid transition of occupants or users of a particular structure or building. Everyone in one way or the other needs them.

Kitchen and Bath Designers

These are specialists in kitchen and bath appurtenances and entire make-up. They possess edgy understanding of variety of appliances, cabinets, fixtures, plumbing and electrical solutions for kitchens and bathrooms.

Corporate Designers

Professional workplace requires interior designs, for small office spaces and large scale volumes entrenched between the bricks and glass of skyscrapers. The creation of effective and functional spaces incorporated with designs and brand styling is their duty.

How to become an Interior Designer

As you have clearly seen, the field of interior design is a boundless space occupied by skills and knowledge. To become an interior designer, the need to attain a bachelor degree is without debate. When enrolling for a course on Interior Design, it is a necessity that prospective students evaluate critically the quality of tutors they are about to hire. Since the course is institution based, the qualification and reputation of the to-be institute must be placed in check; this is to validate the availability of the experience required and practicality of the course in the selected institute of choice. Most aspiring students prefer the Cincinnati college for its quality of experienced tutors and practical exposure that students gain during their course of study.

Job Opportunities for Interior Designers

There are a plethora of job opportunities that you're predisposed to as an interior designer. One enticing advantage is the ability to be versatile--to engage and fit in properly with other professionals in different fields especially in the field of engineering.  It was estimated that interior designers held about 58,000 jobs only in 2014! The industries that employ interior designers include:

      Specialized Designed Service

      Architectural sector

      Mechanical sector

      Engineering sector

      Furniture stores

      Wholesale trade

      Residential Building Construction

The avalanche of work opportunities for interior designers cannot be over emphasized. They are often exposed to a work environ popular for creativity and effectiveness. Most Interior Designers work full time. There are many too who are self-employed and yet equipped with the fullness of relevance that comes with a field notable for amassing daily popularity and versatility with a range of other cognizant fields.

Antonelli College offers Assistance to Displaced ITT Technical Institute Students

Posted on

Cincinnati, OH. – Antonelli College will offer transfers for students affected by the sudden closing of ITT Technical Institute.

Antonelli College has been approved by the State of Ohio as a school who is willing to assist these displaced students to transition from their program at ITT Technical Institute to Antonelli College. ITT Technical Institute's sudden closure displaced more than 35,000 students from their programs nationwide.

Displaced students who want to explore their educational transition options should call our Antonelli College Community Relations Specialist, Michele Anderson, at (513) 824-7004 or send a text message to (513) 300-0669.  She will be able to answer questions about the application process, financial aid and other special situations students may have.

ITT Technical Institute announced Sept. 6 it was shutting down all of its campuses, citing sanctions from the U.S. Department of Education that barred the school from obtaining federal student loans and grants for ITT students. This decision came from findings that ITT was out of compliance with its accreditation standards.

To learn more about Antonelli College and its accreditation, visit http://www.antonellicollege.edu, call (513) 241-4338 or send an email to michele.anderson@antonellicollege.edu.

Cincinnati Campus Night ClassesThe current job market is very competitive, and you must do your best to ensure you have an edge over your peers. Getting a college degree should therefore not be postponed any longer. We are proud to announce that we now offer night classes for all our college degree courses at our Cincinnati ground campus. If you have a very hectic schedule, Cincinnati night classes are quite convenient and beneficial. Here are some of the top reasons why you should consider taking our night classes.

Flexibility in scheduling

However, with our Cincinnati night classes you get extra flexibility in your learning schedule that allows you to continue working while attending school. In addition, if you need take more lessons to meet your graduation requirements, then you can also take advantage of night classes.

More diversity

Cincinnati night classes create a good opportunity for a broader range of students to enroll in college. People with family obligations and those who have full-time jobs may not be able to attend a day class. Therefore, night classes are much more diverse as all these students who could not get an opportunity to study during the day can easily sign up for night sessions. You get to interact with people who have varied life experiences, which allow you to learn more from your peers.

Smaller classes

Generally, Cincinnati night classes are smaller in terms of the number of students. This is likely because most students usually take day classes. However, the fact that there are fewer students in the class means significantly better student outcomes as it increases chances for more one-on-one attention with the instructor. This allows students to develop better learning relationships with both their fellow classmates and professors to enhance the learning experience.

Student satisfaction

When you have a more diverse class and more flexibility in your class scheduling with Cincinnati night classes, you will definitely have a better college experience. This increases student satisfaction and as a result, you can absorb learning material better in this kind of environment.
